About Karen Orders Photography

About Karen MacLin Orders:

I have been doing photography professionally since 1986 (commercial, editorial, fine art and more).  Though I enjoy photographing most things, I gravitate to photographing people.  Portrait photography is my favorite.  I make portraits or headshots on location and in the studio (and can even bring the studio to you).

It is my goal to make my subjects relaxed and comfortable when I photograph.  My aim is to have some fun with it and hopefully it will end up enjoyable for my subject too.  On top of this my objective is to achieve images that not only fulfill my client’s needs, but surpass them.   And if the subject is willing we can “push the envelope” and make amazing photographs.

I have photographed many special needs individuals and enjoy the diversity it brings to my life.  I also love animals, and enjoy having them in the photos.  With my nursing background, I am also quite at home in medical areas and very comfortable with hospitals and patients, and their needs.

There were 4,000 entries, and Viewpoints won for exceeding the industry's norm for publications.

I entered the two issues from 2007 -- which contain a lot of your photos.  Your work played a huge role in this, and I wanted to congratulate and thank you for everything. Nice going!” J.M.

Born and raised in Southern California, I moved to Seattle in 1980.  While working as an RN, I attended college to become a commercial photographer.  Married to Dave Orders in 1990, we have two sons, Henry and Harrison.  Working as a photographer I made my way through the Bachelors of Fine Art Photography program at the UW.  I currently reside (with Dave, the boys, 2 dogs and many cats) in Edmonds, WA (just North of Seattle), am learning to play the accordion, and have my studio in Lynnwood, WA.
